Károly Hetényi Varga was only able to publish his first book with considerable difficulty. It was about 150 catholic priests and protestant ministers who fought against the National Socialist dictatorship. The book was entitled Those Who Were Persecuted for the Truth. His book entitled Clerical Fates in the Shadow of the Swastika and Arrow Cross was published in 1985, in the last years of the communist dictatorship, but even then it was still difficult to get it published. This clearly shows that the history of the efforts of clericals during World War II to save the persecuted was not given adequate attention in Hungary even in the 1980s.
