The Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum, which acquires, holds and exhibits items relating to the history of Lithuanian literature, is one of the main institutions concerned with Lithuanian literature. The museum is in Kaunas, Lithuania’s second city. It was founded in 1936 on the fourth anniversary of Maironis’ death. Today, the collection of the Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum comprises 218,000 exhibits. They embrace all periods of Lithuanian literature, from Martynas Mazvydas’ first book to contemporary writing. The collection increases every year by about 6,000 pieces. The general public can learn about it in exhibitions prepared for writers’ anniversaries or important literary events.
Every year, the Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum holds between 40 and 50 exhibitions.
