The Office of the Chief Archivist of Lithuania is a government agency which participates in shaping national policy on the management and the use of documents and archives, implementing this policy, and supporting the chief archivist of Lithuania in carrying out state administration in the field of documents and archives. The office seeks to accumulate, preserve and promote the documentary heritage of Lithuania, to stimulate public interest on heritage, increase the effectiveness of the documents management. The state archival system consist of Office of the Chief Archivist of Lithuania, Lithuanian State Historical Archive, Lithuanian Central State Archive, Lithuanian State Modern Archive, Lithuanian Special Archive, Lithuanian Archive of Literature and Art and four regional state archives with branches.
