National Digital Archives (NDA) is a central state institution. It belongs to a network of the Polish state archives which also includes the Central Archives of Historical Records (Archiwum Główne Akt Dawnych), Archives of New Records (Archiwum Akt Nowych) and 31 regional archives. The network is subordinated to the General Director of State Archives.
National Digital Archives are derived from Archive of Mechanical Records (Archiwum Dokumentacji Mechanicznej), which was founded in 1955. The change of AMR into NDA took place on the 8th March 2008 on the basis of the decision of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
National Digital Archives are first and foremost responsible for coordinating the digitalisation, storing, and dissemination process of all the State Archives in Poland, as well as smaller non-governmental archives. It digitalizes approximately two million documents per year. Those materials are available on the NDA's website in the researchable repository. The special place in National Digital Archives' repository is taken by the audiovisual and audio materials, especially radio broadcasts from the beginning of the 20th century.
